Founded in 1965, UW Green Bay offers more than 40 Bachelor degrees including pre-professional programs in dentistry, engineering, law, medicine and pharmacy. UW Greenbay is one of nine campus in the state university system. Among those graduate degrees offered are Public Administration, Environmental Policy, and Business. Other majors offered include American Indian Studies, Nursing, Corporate Communications, Theatre, and Women's Studies. US News 2008 Report on America's Best Colleges ranked Green Bay in the fourth tier among liberal arts universities. The university is located in a semi-rural area on the outskirts of Green Bay (pop.250k). Approximately two-thirds of those enrolled are women. Head coach Matt Bollant enters his first year in 2007-08. Bollant takes over from Kevin Borseth who, over 9 seasons, collected eight conference titles, made eight NCAA appearances, garnered nine 20+ winning seasons, and averaged 24 wins. Bollant began his coaching career at Bryan College (NAIA). In five seasons Bollant posted a 134-38 record with the Lady Lions and made four straight NAIA national tournament appearances. Prior to his appointment at Bryan, Bollant served as an assistant coach for Kathi Bennett at Indiana University for two seasons and Evansville University for three years. In 2006-07, the Phoenix finished the season with a 29-4 record but lost in the second round of the NCAA tourney to Connecticut.

UW Green Bay plays in the Horizon League (www.horizonleague.org) which features both private and public institutions comprised of nine teams from five midwestern states. (The Horizon League has been one of the top performing DI conferences in men's college basketball.) Conference plays begins in January with games often played on Thursday evenings and Saturday afternoons. Green Bay will play a 16 game schedule, playing each team twice, home and away. The farthest away game is at Youngstown State some 600 miles from Green Bay. The season concludes with the Horizon Tourney which includes all nine teams with the top four receiving first round byes. The eventual winner receives an automatic NCAA bid.
UW Milwaukee, Illinois-Chicago (UIC), Loyola, Wright State, Youngstown State, Cleveland State, Detroit Mercy, and Butler. Valparaiso joins the Horizon league in 2007-08.
