Head coach Jim Boylen takes over Ray Giacoletti in 2007-08. Giacoletti produced a 54-40 record over three seasons. The program, of course, was made famous under Rick Majerus who posted a .770 winning percentage over his 15 seasons with the Utes. After working in the NBA for 13 years, Boylen served as the top assistant to Tom Izzo at Michigan State during the 2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons. He helped direct the Spartans to a 45-24 record and a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances. Boylen also began his coaching career at Michigan State, working under former head coach Jud Heathcote from 1987-92. Boylen attended the University of Maine where he captained the Black Bears' his junior and senior seasons and earned first-team conference honors in his final year, averaging 21 points per game. In 2006-07, the Utes went 11-19.
