Founded in 1885, the University of Arizona offers over 120 Bachelor and Master degree programs, as well as nearly 100 doctoral programs. UA generally receives national recognition for its anthropology, philosophy, sociology and music programs. Lute Olson completed his 25th season at Arizona in 2007-08. Among active D1 coaches, Olson currently ranks 6th in winning percentage and is one of only five coaches in NCAA history to record 29 or more 20+ winning seasons. His tournament appearances ranks him second among active coaches and Olson is one of just 38 head coaches in NCAA history to win 600 or more games. He owns a career record 800-295 (.730) and has been named the Pac-10 Coach of the Year seven times. Olson's 38 NCAA appearances is third among active D1 coaches. A former prep standout and three sport athlete in college (Augsburg), Olson came to Arizona in 1983-84 after nine successful seasons at Iowa and inherited a program that finished just 4-24 the season before. In 2007-08, the Wildcats finished at 19-15, breaking a string of 20 consecutive 20+ winning seasons. The Wildcats did make their 24th consecutive NCAA appearance (second only to North Carolina's NCAA record streak of 26) but lost to West Virginia in the first round.

Arizona plays in the Pac-10 (www.pac-10.org) which is comprised of ten teams from four states. No conference has more NCAA team titles than the Pac-10. Arizona plays an 18 game league schedule with conference play commencing in January with most games played on Thursday evening and Saturday afternoon. Arizona will play each team twice, home and away. The season concludes with the Pac-10 tourney which includes all teams with the top six teams receiving first round byes. Tourney winner receives an automatic NCAA berth.
