Head coach Lonn Reisman completed his 21st season at Tarleton in 2007-08. Also serving as Tarelton's athletic director, Reisman took over the program in 1988 after the Texans had gone 3-25 the previous year and had only one winning season in the previous 26 while averaging only 7 wins per season! Going 18-11 his first year, Reisman won the league championship his second year and had three 26 game winning seasons in a row. The move to D2 in 1994-95 produced two consecutive losing seasons but Reisman has since adjusted, turning the Texans into one of the most respected programs at the D2 level. Reisman's teams are usually noted for their stingy defense. Reisman, a former star athlete in high school, was an assistant coach at Arkansas State, Southeastern Oklahoma State, and head coach at Connors State (JC) before coming to Tareleton in 1987-88. In 2007-08, Reisman went 25-6 and advanced to the Sweet 16 before falling to Central Oklahoma.

Tarleton plays in the Lone Star Conference (www.lonestarconference.org) which is comprised of 14 teams from Texas and Oklahoma. The conference has two divisions with Tarleton playing in the north. The LSC is considered on the nation's premier D2 conferences. While Tarleton often starts conference play in early December against the other divison, these games don't count in the conference standings. Inter-divison games start around mid-January with games often played on Thursday and Saturday evenings. Currently, Tarleton plays three teams twice and all other once. The season concludes with the LSC tourney which takes the top four teams in each division with the eventual winner receiving an NCAA bid.
