Since its founding in 1937 by the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi, Stritch has emerged as the largest Franciscan institution of higher education in North America and the second-largest private university in Wisconsin. This catholic university has gained recognition in the fields of nursing and business. Over two-thirds of those enrolled are women. CSU offers nearly 30 Bachelor degree programs and seven graduate programs. Majors offered include Drama, Photography, and International Business. US News 2008 report on America's Best Colleges ranked Cardinal Stritch in the third tier among schools in the midwest offering a Master's degree. Cardinal Stritch University's 40-acre, parklike main campus is situated in a quiet suburban neighborhood just north of Milwaukee (pop.1.5M). Taking over an uninspired program in 1991-92, Coach Dennis Fox has done a fantastic job of establishing Cardinal Stritch as a perrenial power in the NAIA. Completing his 17th season in 2007-08, Fox is nationally respected as a recruiter and developer of post players. During the 1990's, Fox's teams had five 20+ winning seasons, made two NAIA tourney appearances, and finished 1st or 2nd in conference play six times. His 27 year career record of 557 wins ranks among the best NAIA programs. During the last eight years, Fox has averaged 25 wins per season! Fox's program stands apart from other NAIA programs in terms of travel, within the U.S. and abroad, and level of competition faced. In 2007-08, the Wolves posted a 19-14 record but did not receive an NAIA tournament bid.

Cardinal Stritch plays in the Chicagoland Conference (www.ccaon.com). The CCAC comprises 15 NAIA Division 1 and II schools, however, only 5 are sanctioned for basketball in NAIA Division II. The season typically includes matches against two or three D2 or D1 schools. Beginning in January, Stritch will play each league opponent twice, home and away, usually on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The regular season conference champion hosts the end of season conference tourney -- which includes all teams -- and has home court throughout and receives a first round bye. If the top seed is defeated before the championship game, the highest remaining seed hosts the final game.
