Legendary coach Lonnie Kruse has made Sterling College one of the top NAIA women's basketball programs in the country. Completing his 28th season in 2007-08, Kruse's won-loss record of 584-180 is among the top 15 NAIA coaches. Prior to Kruse's arrival in 1981, the women's program had yet to have a winning season since its inception in 1974-75. After an initial losing season, Kruse has had winning seasons since. During the 90's, the Lady Warriors compiled a 232-60 won-loss record, averaged 23 wins per season, captured five regular season titles, made five NAIA post season appearances, and was consistently ranked among the top 25. The Warriors went 23-8 in 2007-08 but were beaten in the first round of the NAIA tourney by Cornerstone. It was the 15th time in the last 16 years that Kruse has won 20 games or more.
