Head coach Johnny Dawkins takes over from Trent Johnson at Stanford for 2008-09. Johnson, who came on board in 2004-05 - replacing Mike Montgomery - produced a 80-48 record during his four years here. This is Dawkins first head coaching job. (Technically, Dawkins's lack of head coaching experience does not qualify Stanford for being profiled at CBSA. However, the programs storied past suggests otherwise.) For the last 11 seasons, Dawkins was an assistant/associate coach for Duke during which time the Blue Devils amassed a 330-60 record. A former All-American at Duke, Dawkins was that school's all-time leading scorer until Reddick broke Dawkins's record in 2005. Dawkins spent nine seasons in the NBA. In 2007-08, the Cardinal produced a 28-8 record and advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 before being upended by Texas.
