Head coach Brian Niemuth completed his 21st year at Simpson in 2007-08. Simpson's winningest coach in the history of women's basketball, Niemuth has compiled a .697 winning record since taking over in 1985-86. Over the last eleven years, Niemuth has led the Storm to six first place finishes in the Iowa Intercollegiate Conference, averaged 21 wins per season, and made seven NCAA appearances. In 1998-99, the Storm went 20-0 in league play. Prior to his arrival, Niemuth served as an assistant coach at Park College (Kansas City), his alma mater, where he was an all conference player and co-captain for two years. In 2007-08, the Storm finished with an overall 27-3 record but were eliminated in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tourney by UW-Whitewater.

Simpson plays in the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (www.iowaconference.com) which is comprised of nine small colleges, all in Iowa. Simpson will play each team twice, home and away. Games are commonly piggybacked with the men's. The farthest conference away game is at Luther College, 214 miles from Indianola. The season concludes with the IIAC tourney which takes the top eight teams with the winner receiving an automatic bid to the NCAA tourney.

Neimuth likes to use up to 12 players in a game as the Storm employs a full-court press which they try to use to force the tempo and create easy baskets. In 2007-08, Simpson ranked #3 in offense, averaging 83.4 ppg.
