Completing his 43rd season for 2007-08, Harry Stathman is the winningest active coach at the NAIA level and stands 6th among all winningest coaches at any level. During his tenure, the Bearcats have reached post season play 35 of 43 years. A former Mc Kendree alumna, Stathman coached at the high school level before taking over in 1966. During the 90's, Stathman teams turned in a 259-83 (.757) record and averaged nearly 26 wins per season. Besides being McKendree's men's basketball coach, Stathman serves as the AD and assistant professor of Physical Education. In 2007-08, the Bearcats went 27-7 and advanced to the second round of the NAIA tournament before falling to Campbellsville.

McKendree plays in the American Midwest Conference (www.amermw.org) which is comprised of seven teams from Missouri, Illinois, and Arkansas. Enrollment at these schools ranges from less than 1,000 to 8,000. With just a 12 game conference schedule, non-league opponents make up the bulk of the schedule and begin in early November. There is a two week break at Xmas. Conference play begins in January and games are often played on Thursday and Saturday evenings. McKendree plays each team twice, home and away.
