Head coach Brenda Frese enters her 6th season at Maryland in 2007-08. Frese inherited an under .500 program in 2002-03, however, that is nothing new to Frese. At Ball State and then Minnesota, Frese quickly energized those programs earning COTY honors in both conferences. In her short tenure, Frese has averaged 22 wins per season and made four NCAA appearances including winning the National Championship in 2006. Not surprisingly, the Terps have broken attendance records with Frese at the helm. Frese is a 1993 graduate of the University of Arizona, where she was a three-year letterwinner for the Wildcats as a guard. In 2006-07, she led the Terps to a 28-6 mark but fell in the second round of the NCAA tourney to Mississippi.

Maryland plays in the Atlantic Coast Conference (www.theacc.com) which has long enjoyed the reputation as one of the strongest D1 conferences. The league is comprised of eleven teams from six states. With the expansion to 12 teams in 2005, the ACC schedule could no longer accommodate a home-and-away series between every pair of teams each season. In the new scheduling model, each team is assigned two permanent partners and nine rotating partners over a three-year period. Maryland plays a 14 game schedule. League play commences in January with most games played on Wednesday evenings and Sunday afternoon. The season concludes with the ACC tourney which includes all teams with the top five teams receiving first round byes. Winner is an automatic NCAA qualifier
