Marquette plays in the Big East (www.bigeast.org) which is now comprised of 17 teams. The Big East currently represents the majority of the large, athletically competitive private Catholic schools. League play, which consists of 16 games, starts after the first of the year. Marquette will play three opponents twice, 10 once, and 3 none at all. (This changed in 2007-08; Big East teams now play everyone once and three teams twice.) League games are usually played on Tuesday evenings and Saturday afternoons. The season concludes with the Big East tourney with the winner being an automatic qualifier to the NCAA tournament.
