Head coach Chris Long enters his 3rd season at Tech in 2007-08. Long took over from Kurt Budke who took the same position at Oklahoma State after serving three seasons at Tech. Long’s hiring was considered a no-brainer after being hired by the legendary Barmore as an assistant coach in 1999. (Barmore retired after the 2001-02 season after producing a 576-87 record.) Since the program's inception in 1974-75, Louisana Tech has never had a losing season and has an all time winning percentage of .845! Prior to his appointment as head coach, Long served as the No. 1 assistant to Budke for three seasons. Prior to Tech, Long served as head coach at Vicksburg High School for two seasons where he led the Missy Gators to two straight North State Finals. Up until 2004-05, the Lady Techsters had made 23 straight NCAA appearances (nine final fours), captured eleven straight conference regular season titles, and been ranked among the top ten ranked teams 24 times. Coming off his inaugural season in 2005-06 in which Long went 26-5, the Lady Techsters went 17-13 in 2006-07.

Louisana Tech joined the Western Athletic Conference (ww.wacsports.com) in 2001-02 after playing in the Sun Belt conference. The WAC is a highly competitive athletic conference serving the needs of universities who fit between national powerhouses and small college programs. It is comprised of nine teams from seven states. While the WAC is generally not considered one of the strongest conferences, Tech schedules a tough pre-season. League play starts in late December or early January. Currently, Tech plays a 18 game schedule with games are usually played on Thursday evening and Saturday or Sunday afternoon. The farthest away game is in Hawaii, some 3,000 miles from Ruston. All teams play in the end of season WAC tourney with the winner receiving an automatic bid to the NCAA.
