Founded in 1866, Hope College is a traditional liberal arts institution offering more than 40 Bachelor degree programs. Hope is the only private liberal arts college with national accreditation in art, dance, music and theatre. Head coach Glen Van Wieren completed his 31st season at Hope in 2007-08. Van Wieren has built the Flying Dutchman into one of the most respected and legendary programs in the nation and continued the Hope tradition. Hope's men's program sports an all-time record of 1522-677 -- 5th best among all D3 programs. Van Wieren is Hope' s winningest coach with a 618 victories, averaging 19 wins per season and, except for his first two seasons, has enjoyed 29 consecutive winning seasons. A product of the Hope basketball program himself, Van Wieren has guided the Flying Dutchman to a record 17 conference championships and 20 NCAA appearances. Van Wieren was a four year letterman in both basketball and baseball and ranks among the top scorers in Hope's basketball history. Prior to joining Hope in 1977-78, Van Wieren coached at Grand Haven High School. In 2007-08, the Flying Dutchman posted a 28-4 record and advanced through the Finals of the NCAA tourney before falling to Washington-St. Louis; the same team that knocked them out last year.

Hope plays in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (www.miaa.org) which is comprised of nine teams located in the states of Michigan and Indiana. The conference is the oldest college athletic conference in America. League play begins in December with games usually played on Tuesday or Wednesday evenings and Saturday afternoons. Hope will play each team twice, home and away. All teams play in a single elimination post-season tourney with the winner receiving an automatic NCAA bid. .
