Head coach Steve Howes completed his fifth season at Catholic University in 2007-08. Howes took over from his mentor, Mike Lonergran, Catholic's all-time winningest coach. Lonergran left CUA to become an assistant at Maryland. Howes was Lonergran's top assistant for seven years during which time the Cardinals amassed a 121-26 record and advanced to the NCAA tourney each year. Prior to coming to Catholic as an assistant coach, Howes was head JV and assistant varsity coach at Good Counsel HS in Wheaton (MD). In 2007-08, the Cardinals posted a 10-15 record - breaking a string of nine consecutive 20+ winning seasons.
