Head coach Dave Holmquist completed his 27th season at Biola in 2007-08. At the age of 24, Dave Holmquist was the youngest coach in NAIA history when he broke into the college coaching ranks. Twenty six years later at the age of 50, Holmquist became the youngest coach - at any level - to win 600 games - faster than Dean Smith, John Wooden or Bobby Knight. During his 27 seasons at Biola, Holmquist has coached the Eagles to 14 post season appearances while averaging an incredible 26 wins per season! Prior to his arrival in 1978-79, Biola had never won a District III title, nor had Biola ever won more than 25 games. Holmquist has won 20 games or more in 22 of his 27 seasons at Biola. Holmquist, who has made Biola a perrenial national power, got his first head coaching position at Fresno Pacific. Besides being an astute basketball coach, Holmquist has five Masters degrees and a PhD in Physical Education. In 2007-08, Biola posted 17-14 mark.

Biola plays in the Golden State Athletic Conference (www.gsacsports.org) which is comprised of 11 church-related institutions, all in Southern California. League play can start in late November or early December though non-league games are mixed in until January. More often than not, the 20 conference games are played on Tuesday and Saturday evenings and are piggybacked with the women. Biola plays each team twice, home and away. The farthest away game is at Westmont (Santa Barbara) some 120 miles from La Mirada. The conference winner gets an automatic NAIA bid as does the winner of the eight-team GSAC tourney.
Westmont, Vanguard, The Master's, Point Loma Nazarene, Fresno Pacific, Hope International, Christian Heritage, Concordia, Azusa Pacific, and Cal Baptist.
