Founded in 1831, Xavier provides a liberal arts education in the Catholic, Jesuit tradition. The university is the third largest independent university in Ohio and offers more than 60 undergraduate majors and 11 graduate majors (including a doctorate in Psychology) through three schools: Arts and Sciences, Social Sciences, and the Williams College of Business. Head coach Sean Miller completed his 4th season at Xavier in 2007-08. Miller took over for Thad Matta (who went to Ohio State) and previously under Skip Prosser, who had established Xavier as a national contender. Miller was Matta's associate head coach for three years during which Xavier compiled a 78-23 record, a mark that included three straight 26 win seasons. Miller began his coaching career as an assistant under Stu Jackson at Wisconsin. Prior to coming to Xavier, Miller was an assistant at North Carolina State. The 1992 Pittsburg graduate is regarded as one of the best point guards in Big East history with 1,282 career points. In 2007-08, Miller led the Musketeers to a 30-7 record and Elite 8 appearance, losing to UCLA.

Xavier plays in the Atlantic 10 Conference (www.atlantic10.org) which is now comprised of 14 teams. Although some of its members are state-funded, it is largely made up of private, Catholic institutions. Xavier will play an 18 game schedule beginning in January. The farthest conference away game is at UMASS some 800 miles from campus. The season concludes with the AC 10 tourney which takes all teams with the top two teams receiving first round byes. The winner is an automatic qualifier for the NCAA tourney.
