UW-Whitewater is one of 13 schools in the state university system. It offers over 40 Bachelor degree programs and over 20 Master's. The Department of Social Work is among the largest 400 accredited programs nationwide. UW-Whitewater's Computer Systems Management Program is highly regarded as is its MBA program. Other majors offered include Driver and Safety Teacher Education, Human Resources Management, Journalism, and Physical Education Teaching and Coaching. Head coach Pat Miller completed his 7th year at Whitewater in 2007-08. Serving as the program's assistant coach since 1993-94, Miller took over head duties in 2001-02. Prior to coming to Whitewater, Miller was head coach at Harvard (Illinois) High School. Miller is a 1989 Whitewater graduate and player under the former head coach Dave Vander Meulon. As a player, Miller was one the school's most prolific three point shooters. He ranks third in school history in three-point field goals attempted, in three-point field goals made and in three-point field goal percentage. In his first year as head coach, Miller's Warhawks went 21-7 and captured a share of the conference championship. In 2007-08, Miller led the War Hawks to a 24-5 record and first round NCAA tourney appearance, losing to Loras.

UW-Whitewater plays in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (www.uwsa.edu/wiac/) which is comprised nine teams all from Wisconsin. All are sister campuses within the U. of Wisconsin system. League play can commence in early December though non-league opponents are mixed in until January. Whitewater will play each team twice, home and away, and league games are usually played on Wednesday evening and Saturday afternoons. The farthest conference away game is at Uw Superior some 360 miles from campus. The season concludes with the WIAC tourney which includes the top 8 teams. The winner of the tournament, not the regular season, receives the league's NCAA III berth.
UW-Eau Claire, UW-La Crose, UW-Oskhosh, UW-Plattevillle, UW-River Falls, UW-Stevens Point, UW-Superior, and UW-Stout.
