Head coach Bob Semling completed his third season at Stevens Point in 2007-08. Semling took over from Jack Bennett who, over ten seasons, produced seven 20+ winning seasons, won four conference titles, and made five NCAA appearances, including two National Championships (2004 and 2005). Semling was Bennett's top assistant for the previous two years. Prior to arriving at Stevens Point, Semling was an assistant coach at UW-Green Bay. Semling was a three-year starter at quarterback at UW-Eau Claire from 1977-79 but got his first basketball coaching experience assisting the men's team there for two seasons. Semling led the Pointers to a 17-10 record in his head coaching debut in 2006 and improved on that in 2007, going 26-3 and making to the Sweet 16 before falling to Washington-St. Louis. In 2007-08, the Pointers went 23-7 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA tourney before falling to Buena Vista.
