Williams Colllege was founded in 1793, one of the oldest institutions in the U.S. The college built its reputation around teaching. The college offers over 30 Bachelor degee programs plus graduate programs in Art History and Development Economics. Other majors offered include Russian Language, Astronomy, Drama, and Japanese. A program announced in 2006, Williams in Africa (WIA), enables Juniors to spend anywhere from several weeks to a year studying in Africa and doing humanitarian work. US News 2008 report on America's Best Colleges ranked Williams #1 among liberal arts institutions nationally. The campus is located in Williamstown (pop. 9k ) in the Berkshires, at the Vermont and New York borders, about 150 miles from Boston or New York. Head coach Mike Maker begins his first season at Williams in 2008-09. Maker took over from Dave Paulsen who through eight seasons produced a 170-53 record including a D3 National Championship. Maker comes to Williams from a year as an assistant coach at Creighton University that saw the Bluejays record 20 wins and 10 conference wins for the 10th straight year, a feat matched only by Kansas and Stanford. Prior to Creighton, Maker spent two years at West Virginia (2005-07) and three years at Samford University. (2002-05). His longest tenure was an 11-year run as an associate coach at Dartmouth (1991-2002). Maker played at California Baptist and Hartnell College, serving as captain at both schools both years. He was also an Academic All-American at California Baptist. In 2007-08, the Elphs went 17-8 but did not earn an NCAA bid.

Williams plays in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (www.nescac.com) consisting of eleven highly selective liberal arts colleges located in New England and New York. Several of the colleges in this conference are sometimes referred to as the Little Ivies. The farthest conference away game is at Colby, some 330 miles from campus and games are usually piggybacked with the women's. The top seven teams qualify for the NESCAC tourney; single elimination, top seed hosts, first place team receives first round bye, with the winner receiving an automatic bid the to the NCAA tourney.
Amherst, Bowdoin, Colby, Connecticut College, Hamilton, Middlebury, Trinity, Tufts, Wesleyan, and Bates.
