Founded in 1893, Western Washington is a tradtional liberal arts institution. It offers over 90 Bachelor degree programs and over 40 Master's. Head coach Carmen Dolfo enters her 17th season at Western Washington in 2007-08. Dolfo, who took a one-year leave of absence in 2003-04. She surpassed the 300 win plateau in 2004-05 and is recognized as one of the best D2 coaches. Her career record of 347-122 places her among the top 40 D2 active coaches. Dolfo became Western's head coach in 1990 after four seasons as an assistant. During her tenure, the Vikings have posted thirteen 20 win seasons, including eight out of the laat nine, and eight NCAA appearances. Dolfo played college ball at Biola (CA). The 42-year old Canadian led Penticton High School (British Columbia) to the provincial championship. In 2006-07, Western Washington finished with a 18-10 record overall but was beaten in the first round of the NCAA tourney by UC San Diego.

Western Washington plays in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (www.gnacsports.com) which is currently comprised of 9 schools. Currently, WW plays all schools twice, home and away. League play usually commences in late November or early December. League games are often played on Thursday and Saturday evenings. Currently, the GNAC does not offer a post season tourney. The regular season conference champion receives an automatic NCAA bid.
U.Alaska Anchorage, Alaska Fairbanks, Central Washington, Northwest Nazarene, Saint Martin's, Seattle U., Western Oregon, and Seattle Pacific. Montana State-Billings joins in 2007-08.
