Misc. Information

Head coach Gene Auriemma enters his 22nd season at UCONN in 2007-08. When Auriemma inherited the team, the Huskies had one winning season in the previous 11 years and averaged a paltry 8 wins per season. Except for Auriemma's first year, UCONN has had a winning season every year since. During the 90's, UCONN averaged an incredible 30 wins per season, won two national championships, dominated the Big East with a 159-17 record, and went to the NCAA tourney every year. Auriemma's overall record of 621-120 ranks him first among active D1 coaches in winning percentage. He is the second fastest coach to win 500 games. Auriemma was a 1981 graduate of West Chester where he majored in Political Science. Auriemma broke into the coaching ranks at his high school alma mater, Bishop Kenrick, and later served as an assistant coach at the University of Virginia before coming to UCONN in 1985-86. In 2006-07, the Huskies went 32-4 and made it to the NCAA Elite 8 before being upended by LSU.
