St Lawrence was founded in 1856 by members of the Universalist Church seeking a place to establish a seminary. St. Lawrence is a traditional liberal arts institution offering 32 Bachelor degree programs including Global Studies, Environmental Science, Canadian Studies, and Drama/Theater Arts. Head coach Jennifer Kroll completes her third season at St. Lawrence in 2007-08. Kroll took over from G.P Gromacki who through eight seasons produced six 20+ winning seasons and made five NCAA appearances including making it all the way to the championship game in 2002. Kroll, a former Division I player at Northwestern, coached one season at Ithaca and four at the University of Chicago. She began her coaching career as a graduate assistant basketball coach at the University of Kentucky and was an assistant coach at Cornell University from 1995-1999. In 2005-06, Kroll's inaugural season, the Saints went 19-8. In 2007-08, Kroll went 24-5 and made the NCAA tourney but got knocked out in the second round by Messiah.

St. Lawrence competes in the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association (http://ucaa.ecac.org) which is comprised of eight small colleges, all in New York. Conference and non-conference opponents are scheduled early in the season though a three to four week break at Xmas is customary. St. Lawrence will play each team twice, home and away. Games are usually played on Tuesday and/or Friday and Saturday evenings. The season concludes with the post-season tourney which takes seven teams with the eventual winner receiving an NCAA bid.
