Founded in 1869, St. Cloud State University initially served as a teacher's college. Today, St. Cloud remains one of the top ten producers of teachers in the nation. Its Business, Mass Communications, and Applied Psychology programs are well noted. The school offers over 90 Bachelor degree programs and over 40 Master's. Other majors offered include Aviation, Meteorology, Criminal Justice, Ecology, Insurance and Risk Management, Parks, Recreation & Leisure Facilities Management, and Tourism and Travel Services Management. Head coach Kevin Schlagel completed his 11th season at St. Cloud in 2007-08. Serving as an assistant coach with the program since 1980, Schlagel was promoted to the top spot in 1997-98. Inheriting a program with a history of winning, Schlagel has compiled a .694 winning percentage over the last eight years, produced five 20+ winning seasons, and made five NCAA appearances. A former St. Cloud player, Schlagel was part of the Husky teams of the mid-1980's. A native of Rush City, Minn., Schlagel played basketball and baseball at Rush City High School. In 2007-08, the Huskies finished with a 17-11 record.

St. Cloud State plays in the North Central Conference (www.northcentralconference.org). Several members have moved out of the NCC which will certainly lessen its status as one of the most competitive D2 conferences in the nation. The conference is now comprised of seven teams from four states. League play, consisting of 12 games, begins in January. Conference play is generally on Thursday or Friday evening and Saturday afternoon with games piggybacked with the women's. The season concludes with the NCC tourney which includes all seven teams with first round byes for the top seeds. The winner receives an automatic NCAA bid.
Augustana, Minnesota-Duluth, South Dakota, North Dakota, Nebraska-Omaha, and Minnesota State-Mankato. North Dakota announced in the summer of 2006 that they will reclassify their athletic programs to Division I. They will leave the conference after 2007-08.
