Head coach Steve Dickson enters his 22nd season at St. Anselm in 2007-08. Taking over in 1986-87, Dickson inherited a team that had had five losing seasons in the previous six. In his first year, Dickson took the Hawks to a 25-5 record. Since that time, Dickson has developed St. Anselm's men's program into one of the most successful D2 programs in the nation. Dickson played basketball at the University of New Hampshire (D1). Immediately upon graduation, Dickson took his first coaching position at Biscayne College in Florida. Prior to arriving at St. Anselm, Dickson served as an assistant coach at Bentley College (D2). In his 21 years, Dickson has earned 11 NCAA bids and captured seven conference championships. After a 24-8 in 2005-06, the Hawks turned in a 15-14 record in 2006-07.

St. Anselm plays in the Northeast 10 (www.northeast10.org) which has established itself as one of the premier all-around D2 conferences. It is the second largest conference made up of 15 schools from six New England States. Regular league games start in late November or early December though non-conference opponents are scheduled up until January 1. A two week break at Xmas is customary. League games are often played on Tuesday or Wednesday evening and Saturday afternoon and are piggybacked with the women's. Because the league is so large, not every team is played the customary two times. The season concludes with the Northeast 10 Tourney which includes 12 teams with first round byes for the top four teams. The winner receives an automatic NCAA berth.
