SIU plays in the West Virigina Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (www.wviac.org), one of the oldest D2 conferences. The WVIAC is comprised of 16 teams with all but two from West Virginia. Conference play can start in early December though non-confernence opponents are scheduled until January. Games are often piggybacked with the women's. The season concludes with the WVIAC tourney which takes all teams (top seed gets a first round bye) with the winner receiving an automatic berth in the NCAA tourney.
