Rowan University (formerly Glassboro State College) was founded in 1923 as a teacher training college. With nearly 10,000 students, it is one of the larger D3 institutions in the nation. This comprehensive university offers 36 BA and 26 MA programs plus one doctoral in Education. Majors offered include Business Administration, Criminal Justice, Elementary and Secondary Education, Geography, and Physical Education Teaching and Coaching. US News 2008 report on America's Best Colleges ranked Rowan #28 among universities in the north offering a Master's degree.

Rowan University is nestled in historic Glassboro (pop. 20k), known for its rich heritage in glass manufacturing. The campus is located 30 miles from Philadelphia.

Head coach Joe Cassidy completed his 12th season at Rowan University in 2007-08. Cassidy has guided the Profs to four appearances in the NCAA tourney. The Profs won the conference title in 1999 and took first place in their division in 2004. Over the last twelve years, Cassidy has had seven 20+ winning seasons, and finished first or second in conference play seven times. Prior to taking over head coaching duties in 1996-97, Cassidy was the Profs assistant coach for five seasons. During that time, Rowan won the national championship in 1996 and reached the national semi-finals in 1993 and 1995. Prior to Rowan, Cassidy was an assistant coach at Drexel. The Profs went 20-6 in 2006-07 and 18-8 in 2007-08 but did not earn an NCAA bid.

Conference and Schedule

Rowan plays in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (www.njac.net) which comprised of ten teams from Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York. It is generally regarded as one of the premier D3 conferences in the nation. Conference play can begin in late November or early December though non-league opponents are scheduled in until January. Rowan plays a 18 games schedule and will play each team twice, home and away. Games are usually played on Wednesday evenings and Saturday afternoons. Games are typically piggybacked with the women's. The farthest conference game is at Ramapo, some 175 miles from campus. The season concludes with the NJAC tourney which takes the top six teams in a single elimination format. The two best teams receive a first round bye. The winner receives an automatic NCAA bid.
