Richard Stockton College is a mid-size, award winning public liberal arts college offering over 40 Bachelor degree programs and eight Master's. Its Environmental Studies program is highly acclaimed. Other majors offered include Audiology, Communications and Media Studies, Criminal Justice, Forensic Science, Marine Biology, and Physical Therapy. US News 2007 report on America's Best Colleges ranked Richard Stockton in the third tier among liberal arts schools. Head coach Gerry Matthews completed his 23rd season at Richard Stockton in 2007-08. Not a single losing season in 23 years, Matthews coached at the high school level (Long Branch and Rumson-Fair Haven) for 13 seasons before coming to Richard Stockton in 1985-86. Matthews inherited a program that had had some success but Matthews put Stockton on the map . In his second year he led the Ospreys to the Final 4. During his tenure, his teams have posted eleven 20+ winning seasons, garnered a .698 winning percentage, made eleven NCAA appearances, and collected five conference titles. Matthews was voted conference coach-of-the-year seven times. In 2007-08, the Ospreys went 22-7 and advanced to the Sweet 16 before falling to Amherst.

Richard Stockton plays in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (www.ecac.com) which comprised of ten teams from Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York. The NJAC is generally regarded as one of the premier D3 conferences in the nation. Conference play can begin in late November or early December though non-league opponents are scheduled in until January. Stockton plays a 16 game schedule and will play each team twice, home and away. Games are usually played on Wednesday evenings and Saturday afternoon and typically piggybacked with the women's. The season concludes with the NJAC tourney which takes the top six teams in a single elimination format. The two teams with the best records receive first round byes. The winner receives an automatic NCAA bid.
