Founded in 1884 as a formal education center for textile workers and managers, Philadelphia University (formerly known as Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science) is a private university offering more than 30 Bachelor degree programs and 14 Master's. Nearly two-thirds of those enrolled are women. Its school of textiles and materials technology is world-class. Majors offered include Fashion and Design, Commerical and Advertising Art, and Architecture. US News 2008 report on America's Best Colleges ranked Philadelphia University #70 among universities in the north offering a Master's degree.

Head coach Tom Shirley enters his 19th season at Philadelphia in 2007-08. Shirley is among the winningest active top 10 D2 coaches. Prior to arriving at Philadelphia in 1989-90, Shirley coached at Allentown College for eight seasons where he compiled at 149-73 record. Over the last 18 seasons, Shirley's teams have compiled a 388-163 record, averaging nearly 22 wins per year while making five NCAA appearances. In the last 12 seasons, the Lady Rams have won 20 or more games nine times and placed either first or second in league play eight times. In 2006-07, the Lady Rams went 21-10 but did not earn an NCAA bid.

Conference and Schedule

Philadelphia University now plays in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (www.ccacathletics.org) which is comprised of 12 schools. The 22 game league schedule can start in late November or early December though non-conference opponents are scheduled up unti January 1. League games are usually played on Tuesday or Thursday and Saturday and often piggybacked with the men's. Philadelphia will play each team twice, home and away.
