Founded in 1884 as a formal education center for textile workers and managers, Philadelphia University (formerly known as Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science) is a private university offering more than 30 Bachelor degree programs and 14 Master's. Nearly two-thirds of those enrolled are women. Its school of textiles and materials technology is world-class. Head coach Herb Magee completed his 41st season at Philadelphia University in 2007-08. Magee is just the third NCAA D2 coach with over 700 victories and ranks 10th all-time with 833 wins. A two-time All American and one of Philadelphia's all time leading scorers (2,235), Magee still holds the school record for scoring average in a season at 29.1 ppg. Magee was drafted by the Boston Celtics in 1963, however, he elected to join his former coach as an assistant and then was handed the reins in 1967-68 at the age of 25. Through 41 seasons, Magee has taken his teams to the NCAA tourney 23 times and has had twenty-eight 20+ winning seasons. In 2007-08, the Rams went 22-12 but were beat in the first round of the NCAA tourney by College of St. Rose.

Philadelphia University now plays in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (www.ccacathletics.org) which is comprised of 12 schools. The 22 game league schedule can start in late November or early December though non-conference opponents are scheduled up unti January 1. League games are usually played on Tuesday or Thursday and Saturday and often piggybacked with the women's. Philadelphia will play each team twice, home and away.
