Head coach Jamie Sale completed his 7th season at Morningside in 2007-08. Sale inherited a program in 2001-02 that had only been in existence for three years during which time the Mustangs sported a dismal 12-65 record. Though Sale had to endure a losing season his inaugural season, he has taken the program to new heights and captured back-to-back NAIA national championships in 2003-04 and 2004-05 winning 34 and 35 games respectively. He has guided the Mustangs to six consecutive NAIA Division II National Tournament appearances, a school-record five consecutive 20-win seasons, and four consecutive Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) regular season championships. In 2003-04, the Mustangs recorded 400 3 point field goals shattering the previous NAIA record of 311. Prior to his arrival at Morningside, Sale brought instant success to Briar Cliff where over three short seasons he compiled a 79-20 record and three NAIA Sweet 16 appearances. In 2007-08, the Mustangs went 33-4 but lost to Northwestern in the NAIA Final 4.
