Founded in 1961, the University of Mobile is Christian-based liberal arts institution that offers over 30 Bachelor degree programs and six Master's. Majors offered include Archeology, Drama, Environmental Control Technologies, Marine Science, Physical Education Teaching and Coaching, and Physical Therapy. Head coach Joe Niland completed his 9th year at Mobile in 2007-08. Coaching runs in the family as his father coached at Canisus College in Buffalo and his brother currently coaches at Penn State - Behrend. Niland is no stranger to success has he has posted 20+ winning seasons in ten of his 14 years as a head coach. Formerly at cross-town rival Springfield College, Niland compiled at 127-60 record there. Prior to coming to Mobile in 1998-99, Niland spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Florida Southern (D2). Niland inherited a program that, before his arrival, produced eight 20+ consecutive winning seasons. The program, since inception, has a .690 winning percentage. In 2007-08, the Rams went 22-10 and lost in the first round of the NAIA tourney to Trevecca Nazarene.

Mobile plays in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (www.gcaconf.com) which is comprised of ten schools, most in Louisiana. The league schedule starts in January with most games played on Monday, Thursday and Saturday evenings. Mobile will play each team twice, home and away.
