Head coach Rick Insell enters his 3rd year at Middle Tennessee in 2007-08. Normally, Insell's lack of collegiate head coaching experience would not allow his program to be ranked. His current performance at MTSU, howewer, combined with his phenomenal past success at Shelbyville Central HS (775-148) suggests otherwise. His 50-15 mark in his first two years has not gone unnoticed; earning COTY honors while attendance has soared. His current recruiting class was ranked 10th nationally. In 2006-07, Insell guided the Blue Raiders to their best record ever (30-4) going undefeated in conference play and ending the year ranked 17th nationally. They also advanced to the second round of the NCAA tourney (the program's fourth consecutive showing) before being upended by Marist.
