Head coach Randy Lambert completed his 28th season at Maryville in 2007-08. Born in Maryville and a Maryville College alumnus, Lambert was a four-year starter and the school's all time leading scorer. Lambert took over the program in 1980 after coaching at the high school level. During the 90's, Lambert's teams had seven 20+ winning seasons and advanced to post season play seven times. Coach Lambert ranks in the top 25 in the nation among active Division III coaches. In 2007-08, the Scots finished 24-3 (the program's tenth consecutive 20+ winning season) claimed first place for the sixth consecutive year in the recently formed Great South Athletic conference, and made their 10th consecutive NCAA appearance, losing in the first round to Milsaps College.

After playing an independent schedule for over a decade, Maryville joined the newly formed Great South Athletic Conference in 2002-03. Currently, the GSAC (www.greatsouth.org) is comprised of five schools from Georgia, Tennessee, and Alabama. (For women's sports there are eight schools.) Maryville will play an 8 game schedule, each team twice, home and away. The farthest conference away game is at Huntingdon some 350 miles from campus. Games are often played on Tuesday or Wednesday evening and Saturday afternoon. The season concludes with the GSAC tourney which takes . . . (tbp, explain seeding)
