Head coach Bob Gaillard completed his 20th year at Lewis and Clark in 2007-08 . When Gaillard inherited the program in 1989-90, the Pioneers had managed only two conference victories in the previous three years. Gaillard, who began his coaching career at Jesuit High School in Sacramento, is credited with turning around the men's program at USF (D1) and turning it into a national power from 1970-1978. Gaillard has done much the same at Lewis and Clark. Suffering through back-to-back losing season in 2005 and 2006 (the program's only two losing seasons since 1991) , Gaillard seemed to get things turned around in 2007, going 19-7 and 15-9 in 2008.
