Misc. Information

Head coach Billy Gillespie took over from Tubby Smith in 2007-08. Under Smith's ten year reign, Kentucky continued its long winning tradition. Kentucky has not had a losing season since 1972 and has made more NCAA appearances than any other D1 school. Only UCLA has won more national titles and Kentucky has posted more 30+ winning seasons than any other NCAA institution. Gillespie comes from Texas A&M where he engineered one of the most amazing turnarounds in college basketball history, leading ESPN’s Steve Lavin, among others, to christen him a “miracle worker'. Gillispie began his Division I career at Baylor in the mid-1990s and went on to successful assistant coaching stints at Tulsa and Illinois before taking over head coaching duties at UTEP in 2002. In 2007-08, Gillespie's inaugural debut, Kentucky posted a 18-13 record but did manage a first round NCAA appearance, losing to Marquette.
