Head coach Todd Buchanan enters his third season at HBU in 2007-08. Buchanan took over from Shane Brown who jump-started the women's program in 1999-00 and produced five 30 win seasons! Buchanan has big shoes to fill. (Technically, HBU does not meet the criteria for listing at CBSAguide - this is Buchanan's first stint as a head coach at a four-year institution - but the program's past past success suggests it should be profiled.) Buchanan comes from the University of Houston where he was the associate head coach and recruiting coordinator for the Lady Cougars. Buchanan spent five seasons during which time the Lady Cougars posted a 109-47 record. Before coming to the University of Houston, Buchanan was an assistant coach at East Carolina University after beginning his collegiate coaching career at his alma mater, Murray State University, where he was an assistant coach. Buchanan exceeded expectations in his inaugural season, going 28-4 in 2005-06 and a perfect 20-0 in league play. In 2006-07, the Huskies went 22-6 and advanced to the Elite 8 of the NAIA tournament before falling to Union (TN). It was HBU's eighth straight NAIA Tournament appearance.
