Founded in 1868, Hampton-Sydney is a selective traditional liberal arts college for men only. Head coach Dee Vick begins his first season at Hampton-Sydney in 2008-09. Vick took over from Bubba Smith who went 94-46 through five seasons. Vick, a Raleigh, NC native, played college ball for the Tigers under Hall of Fame coach Tony Shaver. Following graduation, Vick assisted Shaver where during his stint as an assistant helped the Tigers to a 118-28 record. Since 2000, Vick has assisted at East Carolina, South Carolina, College of Charleston, and William and Mary. The Tigers went 19-11 in 2006-07 and 15-12 in 2007-08.

Hampden Sydney plays in the Old Dominion Conference (www.odaconline.com) the second largest D3 conference. Its 14 member schools are located primarily in Virginia, with other members in North Carolina and Washington, DC. The ODAC is considered one of more competitive D3 conferences. League play, usually starts in late November or early December. The Tigers will play each team twice, home and away. Conference games are often played on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The season concludes with the ODAC tourney which includes the top eight teams. There are no byes and games are played at neutral sites. The winner receives an automatic NCAA berth.
Hollins, Lynchburg, Randolph-Macon, Guilford, Roanoke, Washington and Lee, Eastern Mennonite, Bridgewater, Roanoke, Sweet Briar, Virginia Wesleyan, and Emory and Henry.
