Hastings College, which is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church, was founded in 1882. With primarily a liberal arts focus, Hastings offers nearly 30 majors. Head coach Jeff Dittman begins his first season at Hastings in 2008-09. Dittman took over from Tony Hobson who through eight seasons produced a 234-50 record and won NAIA national championships in 2002, 2003 and 2006. Dittman was head coach at Dakota State University in Madison, S.D. for the past 15 years. Dittman was also an NCAA Division I assistant at Sam Houston State from 1987-88, and took over head coaching duties midway through the 1988-89 campaign, going 8-1. Prior to Sam Houston State, Dittman coached at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock for three years. In 2007-08, Hobson produced a 30-6 record and advanced to the Final 4 of the NAIA tourney before being upended by College of the Ozarks.

The Broncos belong to the Great Plains Athletic Conference. The GPAC (www.gpacsports.com) is comprised of 13 private, faith-based colleges and universities in Nebraska, Iowa and South Dakota. The conference is generally regarded among the top three NAIA II conferences in the nation. Conference play generally starts in late November or early December. League games are often played on Tuesday or Wednesday evenings and Saturday afternoon and are piggybacked with the men's. The season concludes with the GPAC tournament which takes the top eight teams with the eventual tournament winner receiving an automatic NCAA bid.
