Head coach Mark Hanson completed his 18th year at Gustavus Aldophus in 2007-08. Inheriting a program that had been a middle-of-the-pack non-contender for most of its history, Hanson has methodically turned the program into one of the nation's elite D3 programs. Hanson, Gustavus's all time winningest coach, has won six conference titles since coming on-board in 1990-91 and over the last 8 years has a sparkling .699 winning percentage. Hanson is a 1983 graduate of Gustavus and its all-time leading scorer and NAIA All American. Following a 14-13 mark in 2006-07, Hanson improved to 19-8 in 2007-08.

Gustavus plays in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (www.miac-online.org) which is comprised of 13 private schools -- all in Minnesota. It is considered one of the more competitive D3 conferences. Gustavus will play each team twice, home and away. One or two conference games might be played in early December prior to a three week winter break. When conference play resumes in January, games are typically played on Wednesday and Saturdays. The farthest conference away game is at Concordia (Moorhead, MN) some 300 miles from campus. The season concludes with the MIAC tourney which takes the top six teams in a single elimination format. The top two teams receive first round byes. The winner receives an automatic bid to the NCAA tourney.
