Burgess was a four-year starter at Iowa State, and a two-time All-Big 12 selection and led the Cyclones to two NCAA Tournament appearances. Grand Valley plays in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (www.gliac.org), the premier D2 conference in the midwest. The GLIAC is comprised of 13 schools from Ohio, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. The conference is divided into two divisions, north and south. GVS plays in the North. The Lakers will play each team in the north division twice, and once in the south. Conference play can start in early December but the schedule includes non-conference opponents until January. Conference games include one or two weekday games plus a Saturday game that is often piggybacked with the men's. The season concludes with the GLIAC conference which takes the top four teams from each division with crossover play beginning with the semi-finals. The winner receives an automatic NCAA berth.
North: Northwood, Lake Superior St., Michigan Tech, Northern Michigan, Saginaw Valley, and Ferris St. South: Gannon, Findlay, Hillsdale, Ashland, Wayne St., and Mercyhurst.
