Head coach Lonnie Bartley enters his 24th season at Fort Valley in 2007-08. Bartley, who attended FVSU and was the team's scorekeeper, so impressed then head coach Jessie Brown with his knowledge of the game, that she elevated him to student assistant coach and later, to assistant coach. When Brown stepped down in 1984, Bartley took over. What Bartely has done over the last 23 years is remarkable with his rookie season being his only sub .500 campaign over the last twenty-three years. Bartely, who has gained a reputation as one of the best recruiters, has seen the program attract some of the more gifted players in the college ranks. Bartley has won 20 or more games for 14 consecutive seasons and earned 13 NCAA bids. In 2006-07, the Lady Wildcats finished at 21-9 but did not receive an NCAA bid.
