Head coach Steve Harold takes over from Nyla Milleson in 2007-08. The Panthers enjoyed sensational success under Milleson (who went to Missouri State) who started the women's program in 2000-01. In seven years, Milleson produced a 185-36 record. Drury did well in getting Harold who was the 2007 NCAA Division II National Coach of the Year at Glenville State. In 12 seasons there, Harold produced a 262-107 record. He began his coaching career as an assistant to the men's basketball team at GSC before moving to the women's side as an assistant in 1993. In 2006-07, Drury finished at 25-9 and advanced to the Elite 8 of the NCAA tourney before being upended by Southern Connecticut.

Drury moved to the Great Lakes Valley Conference (www.glvcsports.com) in 2005-06 which is now comprised of 14 teams. GLVC is one of the premier D2 conferences. The league is split into two divisions, with seven teams in each. Drury competes in the west. Drury will play each team in its division twice and each team from the other once for a total of 19 games. League play may begin as early as in December with consistent conference play after January 1. Games are often played on Thursdays and Saturdays. It is common for league games to be piggybacked with the men's. The season concludes with the GLVC tourney which takes the top eight teams with the winner receiving an automatic NCAA berth.

Harold's preferred style of play is a motion offense with a plethora of set plays and a lot of screens. Defensively, he plays aggressive, in-your-face, man-to-man defense.
