Founded in 1837, Colby-Sawyer is a traditional liberal arts institution offering nearly 30 Bachelor degree programs including Graphic Design, Commercial and Advertising Art, and Sport and Fitness Administration/Management. Nearly two-thirds of the student body are women. US News 2008 report on America's Best Colleges ranked Colby-Sawyer 9th among colleges in the north offering a Bachelor's degree.

Located in New London (pop. 25k), the 200 acre campus is situated in a spectacularly beautiful area of New Hampshire, the Dartmouth-Lake Sunapee region; 90 minutes north of Boston, one hour south of the White Mountains.

Head coach George Martin completed his 14th season at Colby-Sawyer in 2007-08. Inheriting a program that suffered through seven consecutive losing seasons prior to his arrival in 1994-95, Martin has turned the program into a perennial power. Over the last twelve seasons, Martin has produced ten 20+ winning seasons, and averaged 21 wins per year. Martin guided the Chargers to their first ever NCAA appearances in 1997, 1998, and 1999. Since joining the Commonwealth Conference in 1995-96, Martin's teams have dominated the league. Prior to arriving at Colby-Sawyer, Martin was an assistant coach at Wagner College (NY) and spent five seasons assisting at Fitchburg State. In 2007-08, the Chargers went 20-8 but lost in the first round of the NCAA tourney to William Smith.

Conference and Schedule

Colby-Sawyer plays in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (www.commonwealthcoastconference.com) which is comprised of 12 teams from Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island. There are two divisions. Colby-Sawyer plays in the north. Conference play usually gets underway in early December. Conference games are usually played on Tuesday or Thursday evenings and Saturday afternoons. Currently, Colby-Sawyer plays four of their divisional opponents twice and all others once, a total of 16 games. Games are usually piggybacked with the men's. The season concludes with the CCC tourney which includes the top four teams from each division in a single elimination format with the winner receving an automatic NCAA bid.

Style/Stats

Fast paced up tempo style, yet still able to execute in the half court set. Full court player-to-player defense used for the majority of the game; occasionally zone to mix it up a bit. In 2007-08 Colby-Sawyer ranked #25 in defense, holding opponents to 53.6 ppg.
