Founded in 1887, Central State is one of the oldest black administered institutions of higher education in the nation. Originally established at a teacher's college for blacks, CSU now is a traditional liberal arts school offering nearly 40 Bachelor degree programs. Majors offered include Radio and Television, Hotel/Motel administration, Computer Science, and English Literature. US News 2008 report on America's Best Colleges ranked Central State in the fourth tier among universities in the midwest offering a Bachelor's degree. The rural 60 acre campus is located in Wilberforce (pop. 2k) about 60 miles from either Cincinnati or Columbus. Sports programs that have had recent success include women's basketball and men's and women's track and field. Head coach Patricia Tramble enters her 6th season at Central State in 2007-08 after serving as an assistant coach for 15 years under the legendary Theresa Check. While Check amassed an incredible 355-95 won-loss record in her 15 year tenure, much of the credit goes to Tramble who was in charge of recruiting. During the 90's, the Lady Marauders had ten 20+ winning seasons, averaging nearly 25 wins per year. In Tramble's first year, she went 30-2 and took the team to the Final Four. In 2005-06 the Lady Marauders went 12-14 and did marginally better in 2007, going 13-13.
