Founded in 1830, Capital University is a mid-size liberal arts institution that offers over 40 Bachelor degree programs. Capital also offers graduate degrees in Taxation, Law, Business and Nursing. Completing her 23rd season at Capital in 2007-08 is head coach Dixie Jeffers. Jeffers has brought national fame to herself and the university. Along with Washington University in Saint Louis, Capital has produced one of the winningest women's programs in the nation as attested by its 263-34 record during the 1990's -- the best among all D3 programs -- averaging 26 wins per season. Among active D3 coaches, Jeffers ranks among the top 10 in total victories and winning percentage. Through Jeffers tenure, the Crusaders have won the Ohio Athletic Conference regular season title eight times and made eleven NCAA appearances. In 1994 and 1995, Jeffers won back-to-back national coach of the year honors. Prior to coming to Capital in 1983-84, Jeffers was head coach at Rio Grande University (NAIA). In 2007-08, the Crusaders posted a 17-10 mark but did not make an NCAA appearance.

Capital plays in the Ohio Athletic Conference (www.oac.org) which is comprised of 10 schools, all in Ohio. The OAC is the third oldest conference in college athletics. Conference play, which consists of 18 games, can start in late November or early December. League games are usually played on Wednesday evenings and Saturday afternoons. Capital will play each team twice, home and away. Capital usually takes a two week break at Xmas. The season concludes with the OAC conference which takes the top eight teams with the winner receiving an automatic NCAA berth.
Baldwin-Wallace, Otterbein, Wilmington, Heidelberg, Mount Union, Marietta, John Carroll, Ohio Northern, and Muskingum.
