Founded in 1876 and named after the 16th century reformer, Calvin is one of the largest Christian colleges in the U.S. It offers nearly 70 Bachelor degree programs through a traditional liberal arts curriculum. Majors offered include Recreation Product & Services Marketing, Physician Assistant, Optometry (OD), Film/Cinema Studies, and Athletic Training and Sports Medicine. Head coach Kevin Van de Streek completed his 12th season at Calvin in 2007-08. Calvin has a long history of success with an all-time winning percentage of .672. Van De Streek has contributed to the success in his short tenure. Over the last eight seasons Van de Streek has averaged 19 wins per season. In 2000 he went 30-2. A 1981 graduate of Dordt College, Van de Streek was a three year varsity player and all conference point guard for Central Wisconsin Christian HS. Van de Streek began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Central Wisconsin Christian and later became head coach at the University of Sioux Falls (NAIA) where, over six seasons, he turned a lackluster program back to respectability before coming to Calvin in 1996-97. In 2007-08, the Knights finished at 16-11 but did not get an NCAA tournament bid.

Calvin plays in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (www.miaa.org) which is comprised of ten teams located in the states of Michigan, Wisconsin, and Indiana. The conference is the oldest college athletic conference in America. League play begins in January with games usually played on Tuesday or Wednesday evenings and Saturday afternoons. Calvin will play each team twice, home and away. The farthest conference game is at Tri-State (Angola, IN) some 140 miles from campus. The top six teams play in a single elimination post-season tourney with the winner receiving an automatic NCAA bid. The top two teams receive first round byes with high seeds hosting.
