Head coach Keith Brown enters his third season as head coach at Cal State Bakersfield in 2007-08. Brown took over from Henry Clark who through eight seasons made Bakersfield one the winningest D2 programs. Clark produced five 20+ winning seasons, averaged 20 wins per year, and made five NCAA appearances. Brown was Clark's chief assistant for eight years. Brown came to CSUB from the Colorado School of Mines where he turned around one of the nation's worst programs over a five year stint. Brown started his coaching career as an assistant at UC Davis and then moved on to Lewis and Clark and Washinton before landing at CSUB. Brown exceeded expecations in 2005-06, going 21-8 his first year and advancing to the second round of the NCAA tourney before falling to Seattle Pacific. In 2006-06, the Roadrunners went 15-14.

Cal State Bakersfield plays in one of the most competitive D2 conferences in the nation, the California Collegiate Athletic Association(www.goccaa.org). The CCAA is comprised of 12 teams, all in California. League play commences in early December due to the high number of conference contests (22); the pre-season is relatively short. Opponents are played twice, home and away. Conference games are generally played on Friday and Saturday evenings. Currently, the CCAA does not offer an end-of-season conference tournament. The regular season conference champion receives and automatic berth in the NCAA tourney.
