Head coach Luke D'Alessio completed his ninth season in 2007-08 at Bowie State. When he took over the progam in 1999-00, Bowie State had not had a winning season in 30 years. Though D'Alessio fumbled in his inaugural season (7-21), he has been on a tear since, going 172-65 over the last eight years, winning three conference titles, and making three NCAA appearances. D'Alessio coached the Bulldogs as a part-timer his first two years and then, in 2001-02, was made the program's first full time coach in a decade. D'Alessio began his coaching career at the prep level before coaching at his alma mater, Catholic University. His first head coaching position was at Catonsville CC where he took a losing program and made it into a powerful contender. In 2007-08, the Bulldogs went 21-8 but did not receive an NCAA bid.
