There are few programs that have never had a losing season. Bentley is among them. Barbara Stevens, Bentley's winningest coach, gets much of the credit entering her 22nd season in 2007-08. Steven's 743 career wins (becoming only the sixth coach in NCAA women's basketball history to reach the 700-win plateau) is the most among active D2 coaches and her winning percentage currently puts her 4th. Only five coaches in the history of women's college basketball, in any division, have more victories! Averaging 28 wins per season since heading up the program in 1986-87, it's no wonder Stevens has captured 11 conference COTY honors and made 19 NCAA post season tournament appearances. During the 90s, Bentley posted an unbelievable 285-42 record while finishing 1st in the conference nine times and only losing 14 conference games over the entire decade! Stevens came to Bentley after three years as a head coach at UMASS (D1). In 2006-07, Bentley finished at 23-7 and advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 before falling to Southern Connecticut State.

Bentley plays in the Northeast 10 (www.northeast10.org) which has established itself as the premier D2 conference. It is the second largest conference made up of 15 schools from six New England States. The 22 game league schedule starts in late November or early December though non-conference opponents are scheduled up until January 1. League games are usually played on Tuesday evening and Saturday afternoon and are piggybacked with the men's. Because the league is so large, not every team is played the customary 2x. The season concludes with the Northeast 10 Tourney which includes 12 teams with first round byes for the top four teams. The winner receives an automatic NCAA berth.
