Head coach Ron Lievense completed his 12th season at Barton in 2007-08. Prior to arriving at Barton in 1996-97, Lievense coached at several colleges including St. Andrews, Campbell, Averet, and Winona State. A prep player at Thomas Jefferson HS, Lievense played collegiately at Northwestern College (MN). Barton's winningest coach, Lievense has just recently put the Bulldogs on the map. Since 2002, he has averaged 22 wins per season while making three NCAA appearances. In 2006-07, the Bulldogs went 31-5, beating the former D2 national champion Winona State - who held a D2 record 57 game winning streak at the time - for the national championship. In perhaps the most thrilling D2 championship game ever played, Barton came back being down by 7 points with 45 seconds to play. In 2007-08, Barton went 19-10.

Barton plays in the Carolinas-Virginia Conference (www.cvac.net) which is comprised of 12 teams from South Carolina and North Carolina. Barton will play each team twice, home and away, and most games are piggybacked with the women's. Games are often played on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. The season concludes with the CVAC which includes all teams with first round byes for the top five. The winner receives an automatic NCAA bid.
